NBA Star Hosts Skills Camp on Mustang Mountain
This July, CAC will host veteran NBA star and former Arkansas Razorback Joe Johnson along with boys and girls from across the state as they converge on the school for a two-day basketball skills camp.
Johnson, a current forward/guard for the Brooklyn Nets and Little Rock native, will be assisting former CAC coach Matt Hall, CAC assistant coach Bradley Spencer, and other area coaches in instructing campers in shooting, ball handling, passing and key basketball skills.
While the sessions will focus on teaching the fundamentals of the sport, the program will help both experienced athletes and those who have never touched a basketball take their abilities to the next level. An emphasis will also be placed on good sportsmanship and developing the attitude of successful players. “We want to teach them to have fun playing the game,” Hall said. “If you can teach kids to love the game, then you can teach kids to work at it and improve.”

Spencer said his hope at the end of the two days is that campers will walk away with a strong foundation to build upon. “As a coach, I hope students will understand that camp is only the beginning of something great. What they learn at camp and what they continue to work on afterward will allow them to see significant growth as student-athletes.”
According to Hall, one of the standout qualities of this basketball camp is the positive environment and the energetic coaching staff. “We make it fun for everybody and create a positive atmosphere where boys and girls who are playing basketball for the first time, or coming to learn something new, can learn from three or four coaches who have played professionally, and from Joe.”
In addition to practicing technique, campers will have their photos taken with Johnson, receive autographs, and take home a skills camp T-shirt. The Joe Johnson Skills Camp is open to all boys and girls ages 10 to 18 and will be held July 13 and 14 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the CAC gyms. Click here for more information.
