CAC Students Honor Veterans
Over the course of three days, every CAC student took part in an event to honor the veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces. Combined, the PV and NLR Elementary campuses hosted nearly 70 veterans for their individual special presentations on November 9 and 10. The children sang patriotic songs, led prayers and paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the line of service. When the 5th-grade classes sang the patriotic medley (a song that highlights each branch of service), there wasn’t a dry eye to be found.
At the secondary campus, the History Club began planning their November 13 ceremony, reception and guest speaker in September. Lynnette Noble, the History Club sponsor, believes the yearly event is an important part of the club’s goal to stay active.
“To be action-oriented as a history club is difficult,” Lynnette said. “So, we’ve aligned ourselves with this organization called ‘Be the Difference, Never Again’ which promotes making a change in the world. Their focus, which we’ve also adopted, is veterans.”
Noble said the event is a chance for CAC students to not only verbally thank the veterans in their lives, but to physically take time out of their day to show a high level of appreciation.
“Even before we joined with that organization, though, we wanted to honor our local vets each year and show our students how many vets are directly connected to our school. So, when we collect the stars and make a banner you can see that there’s not just three or four – but there are so many people with military connections.”
While the gesture – organizing an assembly, singing songs, and having a small reception – may seem insignificant, the event is always an emotionally encouraging time for both students and veterans.
“When I see them at the reception, they are so happy to be with their grandchild, child or sibling and it’s like they are passing down the importance of their service,” Noble said. “That makes it all worth it at the end of the day.”
