This Spring Break, almost 100 CAC Mustang students in 7th through 12th grade traveled across the globe (Europe and Spain) and across the country (Washington DC) to experience new cultures, see history up close and take education to the next level with unforgettable lessons and experiences. Each trip offered unique moments of growth, educational opportunities and memories that will not soon be forgotten. Take a peek into the thoughts and emotions of a few of our Mustang travelers:

EUROPE

The Europe trip was the best experience that I’ve ever had. I loved soaking up every minute of everything that we did! Getting closer to people that I never thought I would talk to was awesome. Seeing so much history and seeing things that I never thought I would see took my breath away. The best part of this trip was when I put holy water from St. Peter’s Basilica on my forehead as a cross. At my church, we do that every year to re-commit ourselves to Christ. Doing that in that church was awesome. And also waking up and seeing the alps was mind-blowing. I wish we could’ve had a few more days but the time that we had as a group and a family was the best time ever.

The Europe trip was very eye opening to me. I never realized how big this world actually is and how much of it is still unexplored. I wish to go back one day and explore even more of the world. The trip was also very eye-opening because I never realized how old this world is. For example in Dachau when we went to the camp that road is where the Jews walked as well. And that was very surreal to me. I feel very blessed to be able to go to Europe because I know a lot of people don’t have the chance. I’m glad I went to Europe and got this chance to see the world.

After lunch in Munich I made it back to the group a little later than I was supposed to because on the way back I decided to grab another bratwurst sandwich and have a nice talk with an old German woman who was very friendly. I liked her, we’re friends now.

Had the absolute best day today in Prague. Had lunch on the river. Walked the streets. People watched in the square while we listened to music. Loved it.

I spent much time with God, both in cathedrals and personally. I saw a church beyond my wildest dreams today: The Church of the Scourged Savior. It was beautifully painted everywhere, with ornate decorations to match.

God was living there.

Momentarily, I was wondering why nobody praised the painters and designers, but then I realized: God’s glory was all that mattered there. The people who built this church were not doing so for their own glory, but for God’s. That is what servanthood is all about. In this epiphany from God, I was humbled. I can only pray to serve God with my talents as much as his servants there did.

SPAIN

Every single moment was packed with happiness, love and excitement. It didn’t matter that we were tired or hungry, we were in Spain! Spain itself was charming and ancient. The amount of history was fascinating. It also helped that every single person in our group was beautifully wonderful, kind and funny. I love them all, and would do it all again.

Spain was an amazing experience that I will never forget. It fulfilled in me the need for independence that all teens crave while opening a new way of learning. It also set fire in me to travel even more and showed me the amazingness of higher education.

Washington DC

On the Washington DC trip our guide, Suzanne, took us to a lot of the war memorials and it helped me get a better understanding of the vast amount of people who have served this country. It was pretty cool. We went to the Vietnam Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, the World War II memorial and a lot of other memorials. We also went to a bunch of presidential memorials that did a very good job of expressing what the president’s beliefs and desires were.

Overall it was a really great experience. I know the war memorials were breathtaking and a lot of people we were with were touched by them. It was so cool to see all of these huge sites you never thought would be so massive. I didn’t think the Lincoln Memorial would be that big or that the Jefferson Memorial would be that big. I think everyone was just in awe. I can’t really think of the right words to describe all of the cool stuff we got to see.
