Get to Know Stella Peters
CAC 6th grader Stella Peters is an aspiring actress. Last year, she auditioned for a part in a movie and landed her first role! With the premiere coming up in early December, we sat down with Stella to learn more about her acting career and her experience shooting a movie.
We heard that you filmed a movie last year! Tell us a little bit about the movie and your character. You play the main character as a child, correct?
Yes, I play Autumn Bennett in the movie “A Lion’s Game”! The movie is a thriller about a high-powered corporate executive who gets caught up in a whirlwind of scandal and greed when she visits her hometown to pay final respects to her business partner’s father.
How long have you been acting? Is this your first movie?
I always really liked musical theater in dance class, and decided I wanted to try acting. So, I started training in acting classes in 2018, and I got an agent in Los Angeles in 2020. This was my first movie role to audition for, so I was so excited when I got the part.
So, you landed the first big role you auditioned for? That’s amazing!
I definitely didn’t expect to get the role. I thought it would be a great learning experience, but I was super excited to get the part!
What was the experience like filming in LA?
My Mom and I didn’t know what to expect. They sent me call sheets with all of the instructions for where to be, what time, etc. I had hair and makeup, and then I went to set to shoot my scenes. It was surreal being in LA and filming a movie. The director and the producers were so nice, and everybody was encouraging to me, because they knew it was my first movie.
This was during COVID, correct? How did that impact filming?
We had to wear masks on and offset, and we had to get tested before we arrived on set. The entire crew wore masks, except for the actors when we were filming.
How was the overall experience? What was your favorite part of the process? The hardest part?
The experience was amazing. My favorite part was meeting all of my co-stars in the film. I smiled the entire day (except when I was crying in one of my scenes). The hardest part was learning all of my lines.
Do you see yourself pursuing acting as a career?
Possibly, but I guess it depends on what God has planned for me. I’m going to continue to take acting classes and go on auditions as much as I can. I’m also trying to learn more about theater programs across the country so I’ll know where I want to apply for college.
Can we expect to see you in any other roles in the future?
Hopefully! I’m planning on auditioning for more local theater in the area, and I always have my eye out for any new roles I can audition for.
Is there anything else you want to add?
Being on a movie set sounds really fancy, but it’s a lot of hard work and long days. It takes so much time to shoot one scene. It’s only seconds on the screen, but it could take hours to shoot it. And, they shoot every scene multiple times to get all of the different angles. It’s a long process.
