Mustang Mountain Readies for Annual ACCESS Gators Track Meet & Day of Service

The time is upon us for our secondary students to swap out their purple and gold for purple and green in support of the annual ACCESS Gators Track Meet. This year, Mustang Mountain will welcome track athletes from the ACCESS Schools, a group of Little Rock schools for children and youths with learning disabilities, on Wednesday, April 27.

The tradition of hosting the ACCESS Gators track meet began eight years ago after the Gators’ Special Olympics track meet was rained out. The school’s coaches arranged another meet on Mustang Mountain, and ever since, CAC’s secondary campus has turned out to flood the Gator athletes with support as they compete in their individual events.

Following the meet, secondary students will participate in the school’s third annual Day of Service. Groups will be transported to various nonprofit organizations in the community to spend the afternoon learning about the organizations’ missions and serving in ways ranging from repairing and recycling bikes to raking leaves at our community’s parks.

Secondary principal Jordan Collier said that while the few hours students spend serving is certainly beneficial to the local organizations, he hopes a seed is planted that God will nurture over time.

“I hope students see examples of people in our community who have dedicated their lives to a cause bigger than themselves, and then those same students begin looking for ways to serve around them,” Collier said.

Representatives from more than 10 organizations will speak during secondary chapel next Tuesday, April 19 to tell students more about the various opportunities to serve right here in the Central Arkansas community.
