The Great Christmas and Thanksgiving Debate!

Around the school lately, there has been a huge debate between our assistant principals about whether or not we should start celebrating Christmas early. Mrs. Northen believes that we should all wait until after Thanksgiving to start the Christmas festivities; however, Coach Hall thinks we should start celebrating Christmas right after Halloween!
“I like to have a season where I focus on thankfulness,” Mrs. Northen said. She says she still loves Christmas, but she thinks that it is much more low stress. “The food is delicious, and the meaning behind it is good.” Mrs. Northen believes that Christmas and Thanksgiving compliment each other really well and that it’s good to look into both and really think about what they each mean.
Coach Hall has gotten into the Christmas spirit early, but he is not the only one on the mountain! Mrs. Northen shared that some teachers and students get into the Christmas spirit early as well! On the other side, Coach Hall says, “The Christmas spirit makes people happier. It’s easier to smile, be in a good mood, its fun to celebrate others, and the earlier we start it the better.”
He also believes that there is a good way to balance it. He says, “The best way to balance it is to celebrate Thanksgiving on the day and to celebrate Christmas the rest of the time!” He says you can easily see the Christmas spirit this time of year between teachers and students, with people smiling and being generally happier. “My favorite family Christmas tradition is we always open one present on Christmas Eve, and it is always family matching pajamas.”

All-Star Wrestling

At CAC, we love supporting and cheering on all our sports, and wrestling is no different. This year we have a very strong and confident wrestling team coached by Nick Nabors. Two members of his team are senior Izzy Hovater and junior Damien Wicker. Each has had their own lessons and accomplishments from the sport. Damien particularly loves the competitiveness aspect of the team. He says, “It’s up to you how much you want to win or how much you want to be the person that comes out on top.”
Like most sports, wrestling has taught each of them valuable lessons that they can apply to their own personal lives. Izzy and Damien both touched on the fact that wrestling has really taught them how to get through harder challenges and be more dedicated in their daily lives. “It will sometimes be really really hard, but you just gotta push through it and you’ll get it eventually,” Izzy says.

Damien said his favorite memory on the team was his first home meet. He said he will never forget it, and he especially loved having all the students cheering them on in the student section. Izzy’s personal favorite memory was winning a state title last season. Both have their own fair share of impressive achievements from their seasons of wrestling. Izzy says, “I went from winning no matches [to] last year [winning] almost all of them.” Last season she was the conference champion in 5A north and later the same season won the state championship title. Last season Damien earned both all conference and all state and getting on the podium and a medal for being 3rd in state overall.

Come show your love and support for CAC wrestling this season!
