Weekend melodies

The Mountain has been buzzing lately. With all the different events from Good Friday to Access Gators and athletic events to concerts, things have been going on non-stop. The music programs have been putting in lots of work for their end-of-year performances and contests, including last weekend.
The Choir had a massive performance on the Mountain this weekend. Dr. Tamara Harper led teach choir in their Sunday concert titled “Where the light begins.” The choirs had been preparing for their performances for months.
“We worked very hard,” senior choir member Jarett Baker said. “I feel like Dr. Harper had us very prepared to perform.” This show was very important to Jarett because it was the final concert in his high school career.

The jazz band also was out and about last weekend. Mr. South led the band in a performance at Jazz on the Lake at Lake Willastein. What was so unique and challenging was most of the members were playing instruments that they normally don’t play.
“Everybody’s playing a new instrument, kind of a secondary instrument,” he said. “We have saxophone players in jazz band who usually don’t [play that]. We have flute players playing saxophone and clarinet players playing saxophone.”
Another special thing about this event was the collaboration with the vocalists — choir members Kaycee Collins, Jarett Baker and Avery Beauchamp. Junior Micah Faulkner also noted her excitement to play with vocalists.
¨We had been working on this music since after the Christmas concert,¨ she said. One more special thing about this event was the collaboration with the Maumelle Charter Jazz Band. ¨We didn’t get to practice with them so it was a little off at first, but in the end it all came together and worked out good.¨
